2023 Film: Amount Due

Amount Due by Hernán Ballard, Matthew Jarosinski, Jordan DiBenedetto
Madison, WI (Milwaukee Premiere)
Running Time: 6 minutes
Block 4: September 9th, 6:30PM
Drama

"Amount Due" is a semi-autobiographical film about a mother, her terminally-declining health, the injustices of the U.S. healthcare system, and the suffering it brings upon the loved ones of the deceased. Shot in the style of magic realism, "Amount Due" involves puppetry, a metamorphosing main character, and a camera that reveals the biographical aspects of the story.

Directed by and starring Hernán Ballard, Matthew Jarosinski, and Jordan DiBenedetto, for Professor Will Quade's Communication Arts 355: Intro to Media Production, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Director Bio:

I am a Texan-born filmmaker with a history of low-budget commercials and independent films. I have experience in nearly every aspect of the filmmaking process, including animation, scoring, and theatrical distribution. My latest short film, Amount Due, was selected for the 2023 Wisconsin Film Festival, and my first feature documentary, The Launch, will have a limited theatrical release in the United States starting in May. My current focus is on documentary filmmaking.

I am attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where I am pursuing a B.S. in Communications, English and Philosophy.
