2024 Voices Heard Films: She's

She's by Yaya Edmonds
Milwaukee, WI (Milwaukee Premiere)
Running Time: 5 minutes
Dance

Saturday Sept, 7th 1:30PM
Avalon Atmospheric Theater
2473 S Kinnickinnic Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207

A dance film on defining a woman. The film covers four sections, each describing different facets of femininity.

Section 1 (Beyonce) - She is regal.
Section 2 (Jill Scott) - She is soft.
Section 3 (Chris Brown) - She is sexy.
Section 4 (Shawnna) - She is a "city girl."

Defining a woman is impossible because She isn't just her physical attraction nor the traditional beliefs of womanhood. She is also masculine and powerful. A woman is undefinable. She is the programmer not program. She is everything, everywhere all at once. A fragment of beautiful chaos.

Director Bio:

Ayana Edmonds, also known as Yaya, is a 30 year old artist, choreographer and professional dancer in the greater Milwaukee and surrounding areas. She discovered her passion for dance at the age of seven when her mother entered her and her two older sisters in community dance competitions as a young artist. Raised in Omaha, NE, she has been involved in dance, movement and performance since before her early teens. She began professionally teaching and choreographing dance seven years ago focusing on styles rooted in hip hop, jazz, African culture and praise & worship. Within the last year she has expanded her artistry by directing and choreographing her own creative projects and officially deemed her own organization: ro.ya.le tech.nique. Follow her brand @yanaedmonds (IG) to stay connected with her regular class schedules, upcoming projects and events involving two of her passions: both dance and technology!

Outside of dance, Ayana is a Sr. Staff Technical Product Manager at GE Healthcare. She has over seven years of experience in Information Technology, managing digital solutions to improve supply chain on time delivery of medical equipment globally. Ayana majored in computer science at Creighton University where she recognized her passion for problem solving and skill for programming.

Ayana is committed to teaching underprivileged communities coding by combing two of her passions. One of her goals is to create a summer program that combines dance and technology to instill the foundational principles of STEM through something we have in our DNA ... dance, targeted towards the Black and brown communities. This program will continue the energy exchange inside the studio to a larger platform of healing, health, growth and fun!
