PIU is a training film for employees of the Perception Investigation Unit. It teaches employees the proper treatment for the elderly with dementia.
Director's Bio:
Alexander Eberhage is a young filmmaker and prop designer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who explores his passion for the past through art. He enjoys creating short films with satire and humor as well as serious films about dystopian societies and sci-fi worlds. He draws inspiration from the visual look and practical effects of many 80’s sci-fi films, where the worlds are brought to life using old-school effects, miniatures, and matte paintings. He is currently a student of DePaul University who will be graduating soon.
Director's Statement:
I grew up with a grandmother who had dementia. As a child, I wondered if she wasn't delusional. Perhaps she was seeing the truth of reality that the rest of us younger people weren't able to see. So often in film, the elderly are represented as incapable and confused. I wanted to make a film that shows the elderly with a matter of respect. The elderly have a power.
