A formalist portrait of a woman who is introducing an animal therapy program to a Washington State maximum security prison. We follow the process of a small white rabbit being delivered to and then given to a seemingly disinterested inmate. If the inmate is capable of taking proper care to look after the animal, her sentence may be minorly reduced. Left alone in the confinement of her cell, the inmate struggles to connect with Alex, the rabbit.
The Prison Pet Partnership Program is a model for the nation in the area of the rehabilitation of female offenders within the criminal justice system in Washington State.
